The Holy Pen

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.  2 Peter 1:20-21

Who wrote the Bible?  The Apostle Peter clears this up by saying that God spoke through people who then penned the Holy Scriptures.  God continues to write daily on the tablet of your heart, can you discern his movements and what is it he desires to say?  Write what you hear for a short pencil is better than a long memory.

What does it feel like when God is moving upon you?  There will be times you are inspired to do, say, or act upon something, this is called an unction from the Holy.   Acting upon it ensures God will move upon you again.  Then there will be times you are receiving something that feels like a ‘download’ whereby you are writing in a flow or being carried along with a Holy inspiration.  God has chosen to clarify through the pen what the Spirit has spoken so as you receive, write.  Journaling is an ancient practice, a way in which God likes to whisper upon our hearts as we write in his presence.

The secret to inspired writing is who you write with.  Sometimes a download from God comes all at once, at other times it comes as you write.  God’s download can take on the form of words, songs, pictures, memories, even scenes flashing across the screen of your mind.  Kevin Hall, Author of ASPIRE once said, “You should always carry two books with you; the one you are reading and the one you are writing.”  God is writing an epic tale of your journey.  Arm yourself with a Bible, a journal, and a pen and you will be ready to write the next chapter of your life.

REFLECT TO CONNECT:

  1. When was the last time you picked up a pen and asked God to speak to you?
  2. God loves a good question, what questions can you write in your journal today?
  3. What story do you feel God wants to write with you about your life in this season?

Principle:  Starting your day with pen, paper, and the presence of God is an invitation for God to speak through you.
