A Gift for the Taking & Using

by John Tilton on June 08, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

““But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore, it says, ‘When he ascended on high, he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.’”

Ephesians 4:7-8

OBSERVATION:

Although we might think that the scriptures depict a grace like mercy was what was given to us; the grace includes the grace-gifts of Jesus including spiritual abilities and talents. As Jesus ascended to the Father, it was in victory over death. Thus, like any king that celebrates victory and, in those days, flaunting victory over the captives, Jesus depicts the victory over sin, death, and spiritual warfare. His sacrifice on the cross and resurrection, was complete victory.

APPLICATION:

I am so blessed to be reminded that in Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection, it was complete victory over sin and death. Thus, I can claim that victory and life and receive the grace of gifts that Jesus offers to us to serve Him and be Kingdom contributors. However, are gifts meant to be stored and hoarded? Or are gifts meant to be used and called into action? It is for us to continue in Christ’s victory and to follow in the plan and purpose that He died for but was resurrected to show us the way to life eternal and of which we will share with others. As we share the gifts with others, the gifts just keeps on giving.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, thank you for what you did on the cross for me and my sins, as I am reminded that your gift of grace and talents are integral instruments for me to continue to use for your plan and purpose. As I receive, may I be intentional to use the gifts to be a doer of your Word. May I receive it through your Word and the Holy Spirits and then put it to use in serving you. It’s not just about taking and receiving but giving and enacting.
