Understand His Will

SCRIPTURE:

“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”

Ephesians 5:15-17

OBSERVATION:

Paul’s words are direct and to the point. He calls them to live a life focused on wisdom and not foolishness. He understood the things that they would face in the world. The same things we all face today – The ability to choose. In every opportunity we are given, knowing not the will of The Lord, we could choose incorrectly (foolishly).

APPLICATION:

The ONE thing that God allows us to control is the power to choose. In every opportunity in life, we are given a choice to make. We can choose wisely or unwisely. The question is, how can we better choose the former?

We find the answer in verse 17: “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”

The more we are able to understand what The Lord’s will is, the better equipped we will be to make wise choices. Yet the choice is up to us. How then can we better move from unwise to wise, from not understanding The Lord’s will to better understanding what it is?

Here it is – Spend time with Him.

Growing up, the one thing I got better and better at as I got older was understanding what my Dad wanted me to do and what he didn’t want me to do. Did I always do what he wanted? Sadly, no, but the more time I spent with him, the better I understood what he was asking of me.

The same goes for The Lord. The more time we spend with Him in prayer and in The Word, we will we be able to hear His voice better and understand His will. And the better equipped we will be to choose wisely.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have neglected spending time with You, when all You wanted was to sit with me. Thank You Lord that You want to spend time with me. May I sit at Your feet, that I would better understand Your will every day, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
