Return on Investment

SCRIPTURE:

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel. After those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and I will write them on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

Hebrews 8:10

OBSERVATION:

We are so blessed by God’s new covenant, with His abundant grace and mercy, where we are no longer required to go through ritualistic repentance for our sins, but that God would instill His will into our minds and imprint them on our hearts so that we will have the relationship with Him that He desires, that He would be our God, and we His people. What an honor for us to have the God of all creation reside in us through his will.

The question is how does God go about doing this? Do we because of our existence automatically have God’s will imprinted within us? Is there something that we need to do? Thank God we don’t’ have to go through all of the acts of repentance that God required in the Old Testament with sacrifices and alter offerings. All God asks is that we come before Him with repentant hearts asking for His forgiveness and mercy.

Our time spent with Him in prayer and His Word are the keys to God placing his will and desires in our minds and heart. It is this investment in our heart and mind from Him where He will prompt our conscience, influence our motives and desires, and guide us toward obedience. Then we will realize the return on investment and see the possibilities and miracles that God has for us.

APPLICATION:

Although we know how important it is to spend time with God in prayer and His word, it is so easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life. It seems that each day there is so much vying for our attention and involvement.

As a corporate executive, for my whole career, I always had to be mindful of the return on investment of our capital, time and labor. The desired return was usually monetary.

Now, the desired return on investment is to experience God teaching me, growing me, humbling me, building my character, and giving me the sensitivity to the things of God. It is an investment that cannot be measured monetarily, but in life, life abundant. Then to know the honor of having the one and only God dwell in my heart and my mind through the Holy Spirit … wow!

PRAYER:

Lord, thank you for teaching me the true value of investment and return. I am so blessed to have you dwell in me through the Holy Spirit; thereby having your will placed within my heart. Please continue to seed into my life Lord, making me the person you’ve called me to be. May your investment in me result in an abundance in life in me that you can use for Kingdom purposes.
