SCRIPTURE:
“I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from Me.”
Ezekiel 33:7
OBSERVATION:
In Ezekiel 33, God calls Ezekiel a watchman — someone responsible to stay alert and warn people of danger. A watchman could not afford to be asleep, distracted, or silent.
Then in Revelation 18, we see the fall of Babylon — a symbol of worldly pride, corruption, self-indulgence, and a system opposed to God. What once appeared powerful and glamorous collapsed suddenly.
Both passages carry a sense of urgency.
God continually warns people not to drift spiritually asleep while chasing temporary things that cannot last.
APPLICATION:
It’s easy to become spiritually distracted. The world constantly pulls our attention toward comfort, success, entertainment, money, and temporary pleasures.
And slowly, without realizing it, hearts can drift away from intimacy with God.
These chapters remind me to stay spiritually awake.
Not fearful.
Not paranoid.
But awake.
Jesus did not call us to blend into the darkness around us. He called us to remain faithful, alert, and anchored in truth.
A watchman pays attention.
I want to live with a sensitive heart that listens to God’s voice instead of becoming numb to His conviction or distracted by things that ultimately do not matter eternally.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me stay spiritually awake and attentive to Your voice. Protect my heart from drifting into distraction, complacency, or love for temporary things. Give me discernment to recognize what truly matters eternally. Help me live faithfully, boldly, and with a heart fully surrendered to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
