My Refuge

SCRIPTURE:

“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.”

Psalm 118:8

OBSERVATION:

Today the Psalmist reminds me that people can support and encourage me, but my ultimate source of security should be God alone. Human beings can make mistakes, disappoint, or change, but God remains faithful and true. When I place my confidence in Him, I can have peace even when circumstances or relationships are uncertain.

The word “refuge” also stands out to me. A refuge is a place where someone goes for safety, protection, and shelter. God wants to be that safe place for me. When life becomes overwhelming, when relationships become difficult, or when I don’t know what the future holds, I can run to Him instead of allowing fear to control me.

APPLICATION:

Rather than making people my refuge, I can appreciate the people God has placed in my life while remembering that God alone is my ultimate refuge. I do this by:

  1. Trusting God first.
Before depending on someone's opinion or approval, I will bring my concerns and decisions to God in prayer.
  2. Releasing unhealthy dependence.
I will remind myself that my worth, security, and future do not depend entirely on what other people think or do. He hold my future + hope.
  3. Choosing faith over fear.
When I face uncertainty, I will intentionally trust God's direction instead of allowing fear or other people's opinions to control my choices.

PRAYER:

Jesus, help me to trust You above everything else. When I feel uncertain or afraid, remind me that You are my refuge and that I can depend on Your faithfulness. Help me not to place my confidence entirely in people, but to seek You first in every situation. Give me wisdom, peace, and a stronger faith in You. Amen
