SCRIPTURE:
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”
1 Corinthians 1:27
OBSERVATION:
The Corinthian church struggled with pride, comparison, division, and human wisdom. People were elevating certain leaders and measuring spirituality through outward appearances and worldly standards.
But Paul reminds them that God’s ways are different from the world’s ways.
God often chooses ordinary, weak, overlooked, and imperfect people so that the glory clearly belongs to Him and not to human ability.
In Job 33, Elihu speaks about how God reaches people, warns them, teaches them, and turns them back from destruction. God is constantly working to draw hearts toward Himself.
Both passages remind me that God is far more interested in surrendered hearts than impressive appearances.
APPLICATION:
Sometimes I can feel inadequate, weak, or not “enough” compared to others. The world constantly pushes us toward comparison, performance, and proving ourselves.
But God does not need impressive people to accomplish His purposes.
He looks for available hearts.
In fact, weakness often becomes the very place where God’s strength shines most clearly.
That means I do not have to pretend to have it all together. I do not have to strive for recognition or compete for importance.
God is able to work powerfully through ordinary people who depend fully on Him.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank You that Your strength is greater than my weakness. Help me stop comparing myself to others or striving to prove myself. Teach me to walk humbly and depend fully on You. Use my life not for my own glory, but so that others clearly see Your power, grace, and goodness at work through me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
