SCRIPTURE:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23
OBSERVATION:
No matter what may come our way, because of the love of God we are not consumed. He has been, is and will continue to be, right alongside us. His compassion and mercy are new every single morning.
APPLICATION:
There have been times in my life where it seemed like everything was going wrong. Everywhere I turned, there seemed to be a new issue that I had to deal with.
One day I was spending some time with a close friend of mine, Uncle Tim. When I first got saved, Uncle Tim was the person who taught me about the Bible, taught me about the Lord and in his own way would example to me the Word of God. This scripture in particular is one that I fondly remember him teaching me in his own way.
Uncle Tim was the ultimate optimist. I had watched him battle and beat illnesses and ailments that would do in most. What’s amazing was that I never heard him ask why or complain about it.
I was a different story.
One day I had been complaining about everything that seemed to be going wrong and asked him what he did when the problems of life came up. In true Uncle Tim fashion, he smiled at me and said “Have you ever just surrendered it to God and let go? Instead of trying to do it yourself? Want to know what I do? I give it to God and I go to bed. When things seem to be going wrong, I stop and take a break. If it’s close to bed time, I go to sleep. Tomorrow is another day. Things will get better in the morning.”
He taught me three valuable lessons when dealing with the difficulties of life:
- Surrender it to the Lord
- Stop and Be Still
- The Lord’s mercy and compassion renew every morning
These are three lessons that I still utilize to this day. When life happens – Give it to God, Be Still and remember that things will get better in the morning. Not that we ignore our problems, but rather we need to give it to the Lord and listen for His instructions on how to deal with them.
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for trying to control things and trying to do things on my own. Thank You Lord for Your new mercies and compassions. May I cast my cares on You, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
