SCRIPTURE:
“Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.”
Psalms 145:4
OBSERVATION:
In David’s psalm of gratitude and praise to the LORD, he covers so many areas where the goodness of God comes through.
And he ought to know! From his victories to wanderings; from adultery and conspiracy to provision and peace. All through his bad and his good years, David shares that God’s hand has always been on him. Even the days he felt like it wasn’t.
And he says to the reader, let each generation tell its children of God’s mighty power. All the things.
Why? So the glory and greatness of God will never be forgotten or taken for granted.
APPLICATION:
I think about our generations, and how data and information accessibility has exponentially snowballed in the last 100 years.
100 years ago (1926), telephones were the wired data system, most of our data was written and printed words. Literacy was critical, and so was conversation (wala`au, we say).
Today, I can type my devotions on a telephone without wires. It can be stored in this phone with thousands of other devos.
And now with the internet and artificial intelligence, we can actually do all the data gathering to compose a devotion that is full of data and comprehensively legible.
But is it alive? Does it stir the soul and reach past emotions and feelings, and does it draw us closer to the LORD? It can be crafted to give “the feels” and to sound intelligent. But it’s still just compiled and curated data.
As young people begin to grow their dependency on AI to acquire data, there is still legitimacy in the power of sharing our “God Stories” with this generation.
David encourages we who have been “around the block a few times”. He writes,
“They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom; they will give examples of Your power.” — Psalms 145:11
I will share whenever asked by the young ones, of the “OG days” and how God came through, so that they too, will remember their own “God stories” for the generations to come. It’s more than just data.
PRAYER:
Lord Almighty, may I never tire of answering the questions of inquiring young minds.
May their wonder of You always transcend the easy data-gathering that AI affords, and may our God stories inspire them for their next generation. Amen.
