Truth Over Comfort

by Pua Palakiko on August 22, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, ‘Listen, Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.’

Jeremiah 28:15

OBSERVATION:

In this moment, Jeremiah calls out Hananiah, who had been speaking words of comfort and quick deliverance that God never spoke. The people wanted to believe him because it was easier to hear a message of peace than a message of patience and discipline. Jeremiah’s confrontation reveals that false hope, even if it sounds good, can be dangerous. True prophecy and true words from God may not always be what we want to hear, but they are what we need to hear.

APPLICATION:

Like the people of Judah, we often prefer voices that tell us what we want to hear whether from culture, friends, or even our own desires. But following lies leads to disappointment and destruction. God’s truth sometimes requires patience, endurance, or even submission to hard seasons. The challenge for me is: Do I choose God’s truth even when it’s hard, or do I chase comforting words that feel good in the moment? I need to value truth over comfort, knowing God’s way always leads to real freedom.

PRAYER:

Lord, help me discern between truth and lies. Give me the courage to receive Your Word, even when it challenges me. Guard my heart from chasing after comfortable words that lead me away from You. Teach me to walk in Your truth and trust Your timing. Amen.
