SCRIPTURE:
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
1 Peter 2:23
OBSERVATION:
Jesus trusted His life to the Father. He understood the goodness, knowledge, and power of God. He had the power and authority to call down angels to save Him. However, Jesus Christ didn’t do what He could have done. He did what He was called to do. Jesus Christ died on the cross. He was showing us how we should live, because He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly. God the Father will judge justly. No one gets away with anything. God can mix mercy and justice through the cross. This allows us to trust God, forgive, surrender, and be patient in persecution. How can we do this? Because we can trust the judge that judges justly.
APPLICATION:
This is so powerful. We can trust God in His “Yes” or “No.” Jesus didn’t do what was best for His comfort and well-being. He chose obedience and really left the outcome to the Father to judge justly. He taught us how to live by faith. We can forgive. We can have peace in the storm. We can have hope, because God will not fail anyone who trusts in Him. I can have peace, courage, and hope because my God does not fail, and what He says He will do! I rest in the character of God and flee from evil.
PRAYER:
Thank you, Lord, that you guarantee victory to those who are willing to stand in the light to be revealed and cleansed! Thank you for taking our ashes and happily giving us beauty for them. Would you help my unbelief when it begins to take over? Amen!
