SCRIPTURE:
“But when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed…”
Daniel 6:10
OBSERVATION:
Daniel knew the law had changed. He knew praying publicly to God could cost him his life. Yet Scripture says he went home and prayed just as he had done before.
He did not panic.
He did not compromise.
He did not suddenly hide his faith.
His windows remained open.
Daniel’s private life with God had already been established long before the crisis came. The lions’ den simply revealed the depth of his trust.
Psalm 130 also carries the cry of someone calling out to God from deep places:
“Out of the depths I cry to You, Lord.”
Both passages reveal a life anchored in dependence on God.
APPLICATION:
I often wonder what my first instinct is when pressure, fear, or uncertainty comes into my life.
Do I panic first?
Complain first?
Try to control everything first?
Or do I pray first?
Daniel challenges me because his faithfulness was not emotional or occasional. It was consistent.
The crisis did not create Daniel’s prayer life — it revealed it.
I want to be someone whose windows stay open toward God no matter what is happening around me. A person whose connection with God remains steady in both peaceful seasons and difficult ones.
Because when life becomes uncertain, a deep prayer life becomes an anchor.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me keep my windows open toward You. Teach me to seek You consistently, not only when life becomes difficult. Build in me a steady and faithful prayer life that trusts You in every season. When fear or pressure comes, remind me to turn toward You first. Let my heart remain anchored in Your presence no matter what surrounds me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
