SCRIPTURE:
“Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people.”
Ezekiel 12:2
OBSERVATION:
One often thinks that rebellion or being rebellious is to defy and reject that which is expected of oneself. In this scripture, rebellion can also be the result of not seeing or hearing inadvertently because our eyes and ears are set upon the things of the world and life around us. It’s called “Distraction.” The key is the having the eyes to see and ears to hear. How do we do this? God’s Word. If not, we are and/or will be rebellious by not acting upon what we see, hear, and know.
APPLICATION:
The concern is in having seen and heard but not responding or accepting, and thereby it becomes defiant and rejection. If one didn’t see, hear, or know; there is a possible excuse. However, we all have heard the good news of Jesus Christ and therefore there is an expectancy when you know the truth, but don’t act, which is an act of rejection to Jesus, which can be on the edge of blaspheme by rejecting the Lord.
What I want to be careful of is the subtle ways and times that I may read the Word, know God’s will, and still not act in a timely manner in doing God’s will. This is complacency by not having an urgency for the things of the Lord but instead acting on everything else first. It is the precedence and influence of the world around us. Instead, may we hear, read, and see that have to respond and act. Not responding in a timely manner is putting God off. Now that is scary and rebellious thought.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, may I not let complacency in my relationship with you set in; especially if it be subtle. Especially if it be unforeseeable. Especially if my mind and heart are caught up in life and the world. May my heart, mind, and soul be on guard to battle the rebellion tendencies brought on by the influence of life and the world. May my eyes be set on your, the author and finisher.
