SCRIPTURE:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23-24
OBSERVATION:
This Psalm starts with what David understands – God searches and knows us. He knows everything about us. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He ends this Psalm asking God to search him and to see if there were any offensive or wicked ways within him, that God would lead him in the right direction.
APPLICATION:
This is a bold prayer to pray. It’s one that I think many of us wouldn’t want to pray, as it calls on the Lord to highlight the areas of our lives that we would rather avoid.
There was a time when I was going through one of the deepest valleys in my life. Everything around me seemed to be falling apart. As I drew closer unto to the Lord, this was one of the verses I memorized and kept close to my heart.
There was so much pride within me that I didn’t realize that I was the cause of many of the problems in my life. As I earnestly prayed this prayer, I asked God to search me and reveal to me where I was worried, fearful and moving in the wrong direction. That’s exactly what He did.
It was a time of great pain as I was put through the refiner’s fire, but it’s a time I would never change as it began the process of working on the areas that were hindering me. It was also a time where I understood who I really was in Christ:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” – Psalm 139:13-14
God already knows everything about us – the good, the bad and everything in between. One of the best things we can do is allow Him to reveal the areas of our lives He wants us to work on, so that He can move us towards where He is calling us.
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have chosen to ignore what You have been highlighting to me. Thank You Lord for continuing to move within me. May I be molded into who You have created me to be, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
