God Still Sees the Saul

by Mary Waialeale on October 18, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“But the Lord said to Ananias, ‘Go! This man is My chosen instrument…’”

Acts 9:15

OBSERVATION:

Acts 9 tells the dramatic story of Saul’s conversion. Saul was persecuting Christians, creating fear everywhere he went. To most believers, Saul looked dangerous, hopeless, and far from God.

But Jesus saw something different.

Where others saw a persecutor, God saw a chosen instrument.

At the same time, Job 3–4 reminds us what deep suffering can sound like. Job was overwhelmed with grief, confusion, and anguish. His pain was raw and honest.

Both passages remind me that God sees beyond what people see on the surface.

He sees beyond present pain.
Beyond failure.
Beyond reputation.
Beyond what seems impossible.

APPLICATION:

Sometimes I can look at situations or people and quietly think:
“That will never change.”

But Acts 9 reminds me that no heart is beyond God’s reach.

If God can transform Saul into Paul, then God can still change lives, restore people, and redeem impossible situations today.

And for those walking through painful seasons like Job, God also sees the hidden suffering others may not understand.

God sees both the struggling saint and the wandering sinner — and His grace is still able to move powerfully in both.

This challenges me not to give up too quickly on people, on prayers, or on what God may still be doing behind the scenes.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You that You see beyond outward appearances and impossible situations. Help me never lose hope in what Your grace can do in a person’s life — including my own. Give me compassion for those who are hurting and faith to believe that no one is beyond Your reach. Teach me to trust that You are still working even when I cannot yet see the full story. In Jesus’ name, amen.
