SCRIPTURE:
“Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
John 6:9
OBSERVATION:
With thousands following him and a hungry crowd to feed, Jesus asks His disciples what they should do, even though He already knows. He tests them to see. Andrew speaks up and offers up what he’s found – a boy with his lunch. Jesus takes the little and turns it into A LOT. Not only were they able to eat, but they had their fill (John 6:12).
APPLICATION:
We so often try to do things all on our own. We run ourselves ragged and deplete our resources, when all the while THE source is asking us what we should do? We can choose to ignore Him and keep going our way or give what we have to Him, regardless of amount and watch as He does the multiplication.
There have been moments in my life where I’ve been running near empty – spiritually, emotionally and physically. With what little energy I had left, I chose to give it to The Lord in prayer and worship. Times where I have cried out to The Lord and asked for His refreshing and refilling, and He has met me where I was at. He took my little and literally refueled me to be able to finish the things He had asked me to do.
It’s not WHAT I have, but WHO I choose to give it to. I need to remember that it isn’t my job to do the multiplication or miracles. My job is to give to The Lord what I have – my heart. When I can do that He does the Spiritual Math and brings the multiplication and addition, as I subtract myself and my pride so He can go to work.
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have tried to do everything on my own, only to find myself burning out. Thank You Lord for the miracles and multiplication that only You can bring. May I just give it to You, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
