The Gift of the Holy Spirit

by John Tilton on October 12, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ Then they gathered around him and asked him, ‘Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He said to them: ‘It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’”

Acts 1:4-8

OBSERVATION:

These are such important and providential scriptures for believers living today in clearly revealing that - the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father to dwell within us, that we don’t know the day and time of Jesus’ return, that we have power through the Holy Spirit and what our assignment is to be witnesses for Christ. Simply put, “how then shall we will live led by the Holy Spirit.”

APPLICATION:

I am so thankful to know the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells in me and how to enact His power in all His attributes of help, encouragement, teaching, guidance, healing, and comfort. To know that I need not focus on the day and hour of Jesus’ return, but instead, my relationship with Jesus and my assignment until that day. Why worry about when the day is when I can be focusing on giving each day to Him? Thus, I resolve myself to living through the Holy Spirit within me and the power and name of Jesus.

PRAYER:

Dear Father, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to dwell within us until Jesus’ return. Thank you for the knowledge of how to call upon and enact the power of the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and live our lives according to your will, plan, and purpose.
