Scripture: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” – Acts 2:42
Observation: The first believers got it right. Something many strive to continue in churches throughout the world today – To stay rooted in the teachings of Jesus, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer.
Application: With technology and the advances of our modern world, we can easily get away from the things that were foundational in the church. We get so fixated on programs, events and social media that we miss what we are doing it all for – A loving relationship with Christ and those around us (Matthew 22:37-39).
Verses like these are a great reminder for many of us:
- To get back to devoting ourselves to the teachings of Christ
- To stay in fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ
- To break bread with one and another
- To pray
Sometimes getting back to basics can be THE best thing that we can do. Especially when it comes to things of The Lord. It’s one of the reasons why I love our church, because we continue to do these very important things.
I must continue to devote myself to the teachings of Jesus, to stay in fellowship and break bread with other believers and to pray.
Prayer: Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have gotten so focused on tasks that I neglected the very areas You called me to focus on. Thank You Lord for Your reminders. May I get back to doing that which You have called me to do, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
