SCRIPTURE:
“Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry.”
2 Timothy 4:11
OBSERVATION:
This request by Paul is shocking if you know the history.
Earlier in Acts 13, John Mark abandoned Paul and Barnabas on a missionary journey. When Barnabas later wanted to give Mark another chance, Paul refused. The disagreement was so sharp that it split their ministry team (Acts 15).
Paul didn’t trust Mark. Mark failed under pressure. Their relationship broke.
And yet—years later—Paul says here:
“Bring Mark… he is helpful to me in my ministry.”
Restoration happened.
Paul grew. Mark matured. Grace rewrote the ending.
God heals what once felt broken beyond repair.
APPLICATION:
This verse reminds us that failure is not final with God.
- People who disappoint us can grow.
- Relationships that fracture can heal.
- God can restore trust, purpose, and calling.
Sometimes restoration doesn’t look like going back to where things were—it looks like moving forward differently, with wisdom, humility, and grace.
Who is your “Mark”?
Or—where have you been Mark?
God is not intimidated by broken relationships or past mistakes.
He specializes in reconciliation over time.
PRAYER:
God, thank You that You are the God of restoration.
You redeem failures, heal relationships, and bring beauty from broken places.
Where there has been hurt, bring healing.
Where there has been distance, bring reconciliation.
Help us see people—not for who they were—but for who You are shaping them to become.
Restore what only You can restore.
Amen.
