SCRIPTURE:
Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
2 Kings 4:2
OBSERVATION:
This moment happens when a widow comes to Elisha, desperate for help. Her husband has died, and creditors are threatening to take her sons. Elisha doesn’t offer money or even a full solution he asks, “What do you have?” Her answer is almost hopeless: “Nothing, except a small jar of olive oil.” But that tiny jar becomes the very thing God uses for a miracle. Elisha tells her to gather empty jars and pour what she has. And miraculously, the oil flows until every jar is filled.
God doesn’t need much to do something great. He often starts with what we already have, no matter how small or insignificant it seems. This widow thought her little jar was “nothing,” but God saw it as more than enough.
APPLICATION:
Have you ever felt like you have nothing to offer? Like you’re not smart enough, gifted enough, or equipped for what God is calling you to do? Maybe you’re in a season where all you have is a little faith, a little energy, or a little time. That’s okay God can use your little.
I think I’ve found myself in these kinds of moments praying, “Lord, I don’t have much or maybe nothing at all.” But the more I read Scripture, the more I’ve seen how God does miracles with what looks like small measurements to us. A little boy’s lunch of five loaves and two fish fed thousands. A young shepherd boy named David took down a giant with just a sling and a stone. Jesus said even faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. Over and over again, God shows that He’s not limited by size, He’s moved by surrender.
So today, I’m learning to offer what I have, no matter how small it feels. Whether it’s a few words of encouragement, a moment of prayer, a step of obedience, or just being available God can take it, multiply it, and do something miraculous.
PRAYER:
God, thank You that You are the God who does big things with small offerings. So many times I’ve come to You feeling like I have nothing nothing special, nothing strong, nothing ready. But Your Word reminds me that You can use whatever I have, even if it’s just a small jar of oil, a lunchbox, or a mustard seed of faith. You don’t need much You just want my yes.
In Jesus name, Amen
