Faith is Most Important

by Paul Brown on June 25, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

2 Timothy 1:5

OBSERVATION:

Paul is encouraging his mentee. He is reminding him of his identity, his heritage, his gifting, and the Spirit God had given him. In light of this, Paul reflects on the grandmother of Timothy, Lois. He encourages Timothy, saying he sees the same kind of faith in him. In fact, Paul is persuaded that her faith lives now in Timothy. There is a passing down of the baton of faith from generation to generation. This all began with Lois. I wonder if Lois knew that her name would forever be memorialised because of her faith in the Bible. Not only did this happen, but her grandson would now be a church planter in the new covenant church. The faith of Lois was passed down to Timothy because of her sincere faith.

APPLICATION:

Do I reflect a sincere faith? Do I live like Lois? Therefore, I will take time to make sure that my faith isn’t secondary; it is primary. I need to make sure that my faith is being fed every day. I sometimes find myself running close to E or even feeling the yellow light turn on in my soul. This is when I begin praying to make it to the next gas station, next sabbath time. However, when I get there, I only put 5 buckets of gas in the tank of my soul by saying a quick prayer or a shallow devotion. I need to go and sit at the feet of the one who can give me what I need most. My faith in Christ is the source of everything I do. I must maintain this through my daily devotions, solitude, prayer in nature, worship, and community. These must be non-negotiables, because my faith in Christ Jesus isn’t supplemental; it is primary. Therefore, I will go to the petroleum maker to receive the gas, power, confidence, and strength that I can’t afford. I will keep the flame of faith alive. He is the treasure.

PRAYER:

Lord, would guide me to always put the main rocks of intimacy in my life, then add everything, because time with you is never wasted time, it is primary. Amen.
