Allow Him To Direct Your Decisions

SCRIPTURE:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

OBSERVATION:

Solomon wrote these words of instruction that have just as much impact now, as it did then. To trust in the Lord with all your heart is not to be taken lightly. It comes with an understanding that His direction of your paths starts first with placing your utmost trust in Him. Trusting and relying on and in The Lord as a child does in his Father. Trusting not in yourself and your understanding, but rather involving and acknowledging God in EVERYTHING you do. When we are able to do that, He begins to shine the light on the pathway He wants us to walk.

APPLICATION:

If I could sum up this verse in one sentence it would be this – Trust God with all your heart, not yourself, in everything you do. This is an extremely popular verse amongst believers. It gets quoted often when you ask someone what their life verse is, but it’s also a verse that can be difficult to live out.

What I love about this section of scripture is the practicality we can find within them. There are clues that we are given if we are looking for The Lord to direct our steps. If we are looking for clear directions on what we need to do in order to get instructions from God, we can find them here:

  1. Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart
  2. Stop trusting in yourself
  3. Involve and acknowledge Him in EVERYTHING

Simple, but difficult to do.

The more and more I am able to do this, the more and more He directs my plans and steps. It’s not so much an audible voice from above, but more so a directing of my heart. In the decisions I make, the things I do and things I say, when I am able to get the things above in that order, He naturally directs my decisions. In everything I do, I must involve The Lord, being sure to Trust in Him with all my heart, not in myself.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I have trusted in myself more than I ought. Thank You Lord that You speak and guide my steps. May I trust in You with all my heart in all that I do, and stop trusting in myself, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
