You Know What to Do

SCRIPTURE:

For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.

Romans 13:3

OBSERVATION:

This scripture is so simple and a great caution and warning. If we do the right thing, we need not worry about repercussions or getting in trouble. Do wrong, and we’re either gonna get caught and pay the price or be in constant fear of getting caught. So? Do what you know and do is right and you’ll be good to fight another day.

APPLICATION:

The problem? Temptation and thinking we can gratify ourselves; yes, note that I say ourselves rather than what’s right or the Lord. That’s called selfish. But momentary gratification can be so enticing, especially the things that we know are sinful. We ponder the momentary appeal or even the excitement of risk and not getting caught. Hawaiians call it being “kolohe” or rascal, where we do things, we know we’re not supposed to do to see if we can get away with it. I can recount that every time I did what I wasn’t supposed to do, I either got caught or the guilt after-the-fact made me feel so bad as I knew that God sees all. My resolve is rather than being tempted, I will focus on turning the temptation to testimony of being victorious over temptation and sin. I will focus on the win in Christ.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, I know that you call me to do. Yet sometimes I do what I don’t want to do. Thank you for your grace and mercy. Please guide me by the Holy Spirit to be guided and convicted before I fall prey to temptation and sin. Since I know what to do and what is expected of me, may I find my resolve in you to do what is of your will.
