SCRIPTURE:
“’Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’”
Matthew 14:29-31
OBSERVATION:
Peter’s initial faith in Jesus showed his knowledge of who Jesus was and what was miraculously possible. However, Peter’s lack of faith when he saw the wind erased his faith in Jesus and instead focused on the potential peril he saw. Yet Jesus was always there.
APPLICATION:
I can recall those times when I feel as though I am walking strongly in my faith and relationship with Jesus. And then a challenging situation or problem arises, and I tend to let the potential storm winds of the situation take precedence in my mind causing me to worry rather than respond immediately in the power, name, and faithfulness of Jesus. It is such a human instinct in how we initially respond to challenge and conflict. But I am blessed to know that there are those times that I am reminded to call on Jesus immediately, and to surrender all things to Him, whereupon I have seen answered prayer, miracles, and God’s providence.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, may I carry your Word and the power of your name in my heart to walk in faith of your faithfulness. Regardless of the situation, may I walk by your will and ways rather than what I see if what I see takes my eyes off of who you are, what you did, what your Word says you will do, and your faithfulness.
