SCRIPTURE:
“At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.”
Revelation 4:2
OBSERVATION:
Ezekiel 8–11 contains heartbreaking scenes of spiritual compromise and rebellion among God’s people. Sin had filled the temple, and Ezekiel witnessed the glory of God departing.
Yet in Revelation 4, John is given a completely different vision — a vision of heaven.
And the first thing he sees is a throne.
Not chaos.
Not fear.
Not confusion.
A throne.
And someone was sitting on it.
Before John saw creatures, elders, worship, lightning, or glory, he saw that heaven was still governed by God.
No matter what was happening on earth, God was still on the throne.
APPLICATION:
There are times when the world feels chaotic and unstable. We see compromise, confusion, division, and darkness around us, and it can become discouraging.
But Revelation 4 reminds me to lift my eyes higher.
God has not lost control.
He is not anxious.
He is not absent.
The throne in heaven is not empty.
Sometimes I become overwhelmed because I focus too much on what is happening around me instead of who is reigning above me.
Peace returns when my perspective returns.
Worship shifts my focus from earthly chaos to heavenly authority.
PRAYER:
Lord, thank You that You are still on the throne. When the world feels unstable and my heart becomes anxious, help me lift my eyes to You. Remind me that nothing surprises You and nothing is outside of Your authority. Fill my heart with peace, trust, and worship instead of fear. Help me live with confidence knowing that You reign forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
