God Has Not Forgotten You

SCRIPTURE:

10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

Hebrews 6:10

OBSERVATION:

Do you remember what you were doing this time last year? Do you remember what you ate for dinner two weeks ago? Do you remember exactly what you wrote in that long text you sent yesterday? Chances are, you don’t. You forgot.

We are forgetful people. Even the person with the greatest memory in the world has forgotten many details of their life. In fact, the way our brain develops makes it impossible for us to remember the details of our infancy, even though those same memories have shaped and influenced the way we live today.

In this world, there are many things we forget. And because we forget, when it comes to God, we project our forgetfulness on Him. “People have forgotten us, so when things go wrong, it must mean God must have forgotten us too,” we think. “I don’t remember all of the things I’ve done, so God must have forgotten too,” or “I can’t remember every little detail about my life, so God must not be able to either,” our mind suggests to us. But is this true? Absolutely not.

As the author of Hebrews writes, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them” (Hebrews 6:10 NIV). God remembers everything about our lives. He does not forget. And to prove it to us, He doesn’t just say this in Hebrews; there are many times throughout Scripture where God reminds us of His unforgetfulness. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15 NIV). “The Lord remembers us and will bless us: He will bless his people Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron” (Psalm 115:12 NIV). “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV).

APPLICATION:

God has not forgotten you!

He sees you from heaven, He hears your prayers, and He desires to remind you right now that He is still with you. He has never left you. He has never abandoned you. And He still loves you.

Don’t reduce God to the limitations of humanity. We may be forgetful, but God is not. We may not be able to remember every single detail, but He is.

As Jesus says in Luke 12:6-7 NIV, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” God remembers every good thing you’ve done. He has seen every sacrifice you have made for Him. And He will reward you, here on Earth or later in eternity, for your Kingdom work and for the love you have shown Him and His people.

PRAYER:

God,

Thank You that You never forget me. I repent for the times where I have listened to my flesh and believed the lie that You have forgotten me. Forgive me, for you have always remembered me, and You have never left my side. Holy Spirit, help me to become more aware of Your presence, open my eyes to see You every second of my life, and renew my mind to remember the fact the You always remember me. I love You, Lord. Thank You for loving me.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
