SCRIPTURE:
“But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.”
Titus 3:9-11
OBSERVATION:
Titus is warned of those who would steer him off course. Those who would distract him with unprofitable and useless controversies, arguments and quarrels. As well as those who would cause division.
APPLICATION:
I’ve often seen it amongst the Church body, where the enemy will use two tactics to halt what God is doing. They can be found in our reading today – Division and Distraction. If he can get us to take our eyes off of what The Lord is calling us to do and cause division within us, it becomes easy to destroy all the good that God is trying to do.
Years ago, there were a few individuals I knew who just seemed to do this constantly behind the scenes. It would often start with gossip and foolish arguments and quarrels. This would soon break down relationships with those involved, causing separate factions to form. Once we found out about it, we needed to address the individuals who were causing it. As we learn in this verse – to warn a divisive person.
Why?
If not it can wreak havoc, potentially causing permanent harm to the relationships of those involved.
Fast forward to today and one of the things that I am constantly on the lookout for is this – Any attempts from others that may cause division and distraction. More importantly, if and when we recognize it, that we act swiftly and warn those who may be causing it.
PRAYER:
Father Almighty. Forgive me Lord for times when I myself have played a part in this. Thank You Lord for the warnings You send us through Your word. May we be a people that bring peace and unity, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
