Commit

by Mary Waialeale on May 31, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”

Proverbs 16:3

OBSERVATION:

This short verse is packed with gems.
The word commit isn’t casual. It means to deliberately place something into God’s hands — with intention, trust, and follow-through. When we commit to the Lord, we’re saying, “What I say I’ll do, I’ll do.”

It reminds me of New Year’s resolutions or goals. We often start strong, full of resolve, but somewhere along the way, our commitment fades. As we come to the end of May, this verse gently nudges me to pause and remember what my goals were back in January 2026.

At the core, my goal was simple: to commit to doing His will first — not just in big decisions, but in daily ones.

The second part of the verse says, “and He will establish your plans.”
Yes, we can — and should — make plans. Scripture doesn’t discourage planning. But this verse reminds us that God is the One who gives our plans stability, direction, and lasting impact.

To establish means:

  • to make firm what feels shaky
  • to give clarity where there’s confusion
  • to align our plans with His purpose
  • to bring about what actually lasts

In other words, when we commit our ways to Him, God doesn’t just bless our plans — He orders them, strengthens them, and makes them fruitful in ways we couldn’t orchestrate ourselves.

APPLICATION:

As May comes to a close, I want to recommit — not just revisit my goals, but to realign my heart.
Am I still seeking His will first?
Have I subtly taken back control of my plans?

Today, I choose to place my plans back into God’s hands and trust Him to establish what truly matters.

PRAYER:

Lord, I commit my ways to You again.
Help me to follow through on what I’ve surrendered to You.
I trust You to establish my plans — not according to my timing or understanding, but according to Your perfect will.
Order my steps, strengthen what is from You, and gently remove what is not.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
