Close in the Crushing

SCRIPTURE:

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:17-18

OBSERVATION:

David reminds us that even the righteous those who love and follow God, will face deep pain. But here’s the comfort, God doesn’t ignore their cries. He hears, delivers, and most tenderly, draws near. This isn’t a God who keeps His distance from our pain. When hearts break and spirits feel crushed, He comes close. That kind of closeness isn’t casual it’s intimate, compassionate, and healing.

APPLICATION:

I’ve had seasons where it felt like my prayers bounced off the ceiling. Times when my heart was shattered and hope felt thin. These words meets me right there. It tells me I don’t need to pretend to be strong. God isn’t repelled by my brokenness; He’s moved by it. When I cry out, He listens. When I feel crushed, He comes close. My job isn’t to fix the pain it’s to call on Him and lean into His nearness. That’s where healing begins.

PRAYER:

God, thank You for being close when I feel broken and crushed. Help me not to hide my hurt from You. Remind me that You’re not distant you’re right here, even in the middle of my mess. I cry out to You today, not just for deliverance, but for Your presence. Be near to me, and let Your closeness be my comfort. Amen.
