What News Is Being Spread?

by Mary Waialeale on January 04, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.”

Luke 4:14–15

OBSERVATION:

Jesus didn’t return to Galilee trying to make a name for Himself.
He returned in the power of the Holy Spirit.

And because of that, news spread.

People talked about Him — not because He demanded attention,
but because the Spirit of God was clearly at work in His life.

Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, taught with wisdom.
He spoke truth with authority.
He brought hope, clarity, and life wherever He went.

That raises an honest question for us:

What kind of “news” about you do people spread?

When people leave a conversation with you,
what do they walk away with?

Compassion….or weariness?
Hope… or heaviness?
Grace… or frustration?

The same Holy Spirit who empowered Jesus
now lives in us.

If Jesus’ life was marked by Spirit-filled influence,
ours can be too.

APPLICATION:

Imagine what could happen
if we tapped into the Holy Spirit’s power daily —
before we speak, before we react, before we walk into our day.

Imagine the kind of “news” that would spread
if people consistently encountered
love, wisdom, patience, and peace through us.

What would change if I invited the Holy Spirit to lead me today?

PRAYER:

Holy Spirit,
I invite You to lead my words, my actions, and my responses today.
Fill me with Your power, not so attention comes to me,
but so people experience You through me.
Let the “news” of my life point others to Jesus.
Amen.
