SCRIPTURE:
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
Luke 7:9-10
OBSERVATION:
There is only one person that left Jesus Christ in amazement because of his faith. This Roman centurion amazed Jesus Christ, the King of kings. He believed his servant could be healed by God from a long distance away. This Roman soldier, gentile, believed in the power of Jesus. He knew how authority worked. In fact, he recognized the authority of God. So the question wasn’t could God save his servant, but rather was it in God’s will to save his servant. He had full faith that God would and could. He had such reverence for Jesus that he didn’t consider himself worthy to have him in his house.
There was another time that God was amazed, but it was because of the lack of faith. His own hometown didn’t believe in Jesus. In His hometown they didn’t recognize who He was. They probably saw Him as Joseph’s boy. They saw him as common. This held them back from experiencing the power of God in their lives. When they saw Jesus, they saw common.
APPLICATION:
My future is predicated on how I see Christ. If He is Lord then anything and everything is possible. If I see Jesus as another “average joe” then there is no resurrection or life. I hope and pray that God isn’t amazed at my disbelief but by my belief, that He is the great “I AM.” He is the beginning and the end.
This makes my life simple. He is the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through Him. This gives us the framework for reality. We are, because He is. Therefore, meaning, purpose, design, beauty, morality, and significance all emanate from Him. Therefore, I will pray to God in every area of my life, because His “yes” and “no” are both in His grand design and in Him there is eternal purpose. However, my responsibility is to come to Him and ask.
PRAYER:
Lord, would You guide me to have peace in Your “yes” and “no”. Lord, You are good and worthy of all praise. You are the grand architect of reality, time, space, energy, and matter. I trust and pray that You bless my family and I. Amen.
