We Will Be Held Accountable

SCRIPTURE:

“The day of the Lord is near for all nations.
As you have done, it will be done to you;
 your deeds will return upon your own head.”  Obadiah 1:15

OBSERVATION:

Such few words, and perhaps a little hash in tone, by Obadiah; but so succinct and clear as to what metaphorically awaits the future.  Indeed, we will reap what we sow.  People will have the propensity to continue to live the life style they are accustomed to; but it will be those that are able to change their ways and follow the Lord as noted in the scriptures of those that are on “Mount Zion,” who will be spared.  I love how it says that the house of “Jacob will possess their possessions.”  As Jesus is from the line of Jacob, it is prophesying all that we know would transpire, forthcoming with Jesus.  That all that is meant to be hours in inheritance will be ours in obedience.

APPLICATION:

This scripture is a resounding reminder to me that if I think that I can continue to live a lifestyle that may not be honoring of the Lord, or in His will, with the thought that nothing catastrophic has befallen me, and therefore may escape God’s judgment; I better think again.  Yet, the word is so clear that judgment day will come, and has the prophesy of Jesus came to fruition, so to, will the word of judgment.  Thus, I need to assess my life now, and do what I need to do now in obedience to the Lord’s will and plan for me; and not procrastinate or forestall.  I know that I will be held accountable when asked, “what did you do with my son?”

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, thank you for the resounding reminder of the reality that awaits us all, and what I am clearly called to do now, and not tomorrow.  Guide me that I will daily sow what you avail to me in your word, that I will reap the honor of being on Mount Zion.
