Wait; Who is Lord and King?

SCRIPTURE:

OBSERVATION:

Jesus’ ministry is going full speed ahead. Having healed a man 38 years lame, and then proclaiming Himself to be the Son of God, stirring up contempt and hate by the Pharisees and priests, He heads across the Sea of Galilee.

Here, He does His miracle of feeding 5,000 plus people with the equivalent of a plate lunch, providing fish and bread as His disciples distributed them. A physical need, miraculously met by Jesus.

Having not only seen this miraculous sign, but having been fed by it, the people go crazy! “This IS the Prophet we have been waiting for! He will be a great king! He can make food; imagine everything else He can make for us!!”

It’s written that as soon as He saw they intended to make Him their king by force, He slipped away. Made like a tree and leaves.

APPLICATION:

I read this and think to myself, “You morons! Can’t you see beyond the miracle?  Don’t you remember the debate with the Pharisees, that these miracles are meant to be tangible proofs that Jesus is indeed the Son of God?!”

“Why are you trying to make Jesus the king that you want Him to be?!”

Then I realize, that’s ME, sometimes.

I want to force Jesus into making things for ME. To give me stuff. To fix MY problems. To heal people on MY command.

I call Him my King and Lord, but sometimes I act like I am king, and He does my command.

I’m supposed to be His loyal subject, not His manipulator. My only request, is that He forgive me when I get the order mixed up.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, You are King and Lord over all things, not just Israel. Your miracles are enough, even though I never saw the ones of old, You still do miracles, and I still believe in You.

Forgive me when I try to flip the order and tell You what to do, instead of coming to You and saying, “Your will be DONE.”
