THE TRAVELING PRESENCE

by Scott Hogle on December 26, 2022

For if you do not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and on your servants and on your people and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians will be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground on which they dwell. But on that day, I will set apart the land of Goshen, where My people are living, so that no swarms of flies will be there, in order that you may know that I, the LORD, am in the midst of the land. Exodus 8:21-22

When God’s presence moves, make sure you move with it.  I live in a neighborhood called Manoa, known for its rainbows. In fact, Manoa’s nickname is the ‘Valley of the Rainbows’ because you can see multiple rainbows every day. Because it sprinkles rain on and off throughout the day, there are multiple weather patterns that may cause rain to be in one area of the neighborhood but not another. God sent flies upon Egypt yet put a barrier between where His people lived and where the Egyptians lived. This was a sign that God was in the land dwelling with His people. Flies occupied one area but not the other although they were geographically next to each other.

In Old Testament times, God’s presence would come and go from His children. As a Christian, you now have Christ living on the inside, so God is with you wherever you go. You carry His presence in your earthen vessel. That means God is with you when you go to the store, attend meetings, when you sleep and when you rise. How much God’s presence becomes known to you depends on how often you invite Jesus into your everyday everything’s. A simple invitation from you can open the door for Jesus to become active in your daily doings. Just like the daily rainbows in Manoa, you will see signs of His fingerprints in every area of your life you give him access to.

REFLECT TO CONNECT:

  1. In what ways do you see God at work in your life?
  2. How do you feel knowing God is with you in all that you do?
  3. Why is inviting Jesus into your daily doing’s important to experience His presence?

Principle: Like the clouds by day and fire by night that followed them in the wilderness, so is God’s presence with you every day.
