The Road To Recovery

Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Return to Me,” declares the LORD of hosts, “that I may return to you,” says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 1:3

You are never more than one-decision away from changing your life. Your life can change today by changing your mind, making a new decision, or by intentionally choosing a new direction. It is easy to get caught up in the idea that we are powerless to change our circumstance, but you are not. God will often change your circumstance by changing you in the middle of it as he did with Gideon, Joseph, Daniel, and more. How can you begin to cooperate with God in changing you? By transforming how you think according to Romans 12:2. The first step in spiritual transformation is to ask yourself, ‘What does God think about my situation; What is He leading me to do’?

When I am facing a challenge and do not know what to do, I first pray it out, then talk it out with one of the mentors from the Bible by asking myself, ‘Who or where in the Bible has someone gone through something similar’? By studying their story and seeking the Mind of God, I listen for insights and wait for the Holy Spirit to speak into my situation. With the scriptural story as the back-drop I have just read, God now has a context (framework) by which he can speak into my situation in a way that I will understand. God promises to shed his light and wisdom upon our heart when we seek Him. Letting God frame and reframe your story through the lens of Scripture is His first step of transformation for you. In the Old Testament, we see a hurt and frustrated Father pleading with his children to return that He may bless them and repair their lives. Whatever you are facing today, getting yourself into the presence of God and into his Word is the antidote to what ails you. You are never more than one-decision, one-person, or one-step away from the Road to Recovery.

REFLECT TO CONNECT:

  1. What one decision can you make today to change your circumstance?
  2. What one step is God leading you to ‘change you’ in the middle of your circumstance?
  3. What do you think God has to say about your situation?

Principle: Everyday you make a choice to turn toward or away from God, to do life with or without Him.
