The Peace Of Jesus

SCRIPTURE:

“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”
Acts 4:13

OBSERVATION:

Peter and John were brought before the rulers, elders and teachers of the law.  Through their words and actions, they clearly demonstrated that they had spent a great deal of time with Jesus.

APPLICATION:

When we speak and act, who do people see?  Do they see more of us or more of Jesus?

For much of my life I said and did whatever I wanted to, to whomever I wanted to.  It was clear who I was serving – myself.  This ruined many relationships, caused me much pain and brought about a number of difficult times.

A few years after I was saved, I went through one of the deepest and darkest valleys of my life.  I found myself in constant prayer, spending more time with the Lord than I did with others.  One day I had just got done with my devotions and was contemplating many different things, when I ran into someone I knew.

Ben was an older believer that I would see from time to time.  We were more acquaintances than anything, often exchanging pleasantries.  On this particular day as I walked past him at a local coffee shop, he stopped me and said “Brother, can I share something with you?  You just have the peace of Jesus on your face.”

And walked away.

I’ll never forget that day for the rest of my life.  The more time we spend with Jesus, in prayer and the Word, the more and more we reflect Him.  Slowly but surely we take on His characteristics and less of our own.

Is it always this way?  No, I wish it were.  Yet, the more time we spend with Christ, the goal is that we begin to look more like Him and less like us.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty.  Forgive me Lord for times when I have acted out and shined more of me.  Thank You Lord for continuing to speak to my heart.  May I spend more time with You, and reflect You more and more each day, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
