SCRIPTURE:
“One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked Him…”
Luke 17:15–16
OBSERVATION:
In Luke 17, Jesus healed ten lepers. All ten received a miracle, but only one returned to thank Him.
Jesus asked:
“Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?”
What stands out is that gratitude made the one man turn back toward Jesus.
Psalm 150 is filled with praise:
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
Praise and gratitude are deeply connected. A thankful heart recognizes God’s goodness and responds with worship.
In Esther 1–2, we also see God quietly positioning Esther for a purpose she could not yet fully understand. Even when God’s name is not directly mentioned in Esther, His hand is still moving behind the scenes.
APPLICATION:
It’s easy to focus on what is still missing, difficult, or unresolved in life. But gratitude shifts my perspective.
Sometimes I rush past answered prayers without pausing to return and thank God.
The one leper who came back reminds me that gratitude is more than politeness — it is worship.
And even in seasons when I cannot fully see what God is doing, like Esther, I can still trust that He is working behind the scenes.
A grateful heart notices God’s hand more clearly.
PRAYER:
Lord, forgive me for the times I rush through life without stopping to thank You. Help me become someone who notices Your goodness and returns to You with gratitude and praise. Open my eyes to see the ways You are working behind the scenes, even when I do not fully understand the season I’m in. Let thanksgiving and worship continually fill my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
