You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Have you ever seen an Olympian jump over the hurdles on the track as they run? These athletes are doing what is called ‘hurdling’, they are overcoming the height of the obstacle that stands between them and victory. The moment you became born again, you became an OVERCOMER, one who can hurdle over any obstacle with Christ. You may not feel like an overcomer but you are. Your position and standing in Christ is not based on how you feel or from what you have done, but on what Jesus did. Regardless of circumstance, the OVERCOMER within you has the ability to walk through and get you through whatever you are going through.

One of the greatest worldwide brands today is NIKE. Words like champion, driven, victory, or excellence come to mind for me. The word ‘Nikeos’ comes from ancient time of the gladiator in the arena who competed for the prize of life, freedom, and the reputation for being the best, a conquerer, one who overcame obstacles. At the heart of Nikeos is the heart of an OVERCOMER. Before one can overcome on the outside, they must choose to overcome what is on the inside first. Many of the barriers an OVERCOMER must conquer can be self imposed. These can include fear, self doubt, feelings of weaknesses or inadequacy. What is standing in your way today in order for you to achieve your dream, run your race, or triumph over adversity? ‘Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world’ means that when you focus your eyes on Jesus while facing what you are fighting, it is His strength and His power that will make you an OVERCOMER. In Christ you will achieve the victory.

  1. What obstacle you need to overcome in your life?
  2. What advice would you give to someone who wants to learn to be an ‘overcomer’ with Christ?
  3. What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome in your life?

Principle: The OVERCOMER in you is Christ, who strengthens you to be all things, do all things, and achieve every dream He has for you.
