THE MARATHON TASK OF 10 ASKS

by Scott Hogle on January 02, 2023

The LORD did as Moses asked, and removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants and from his people; not one remained. Exodus 8:31

What a powerful phrase, ‘The Lord did as Moses asked.’ What ‘asks’ have you made of the Lord lately? Jesus said, ‘you have not because you ask not.’ There are times God acquiesces to us, there are other times he says no, or not now. We must work in cooperation with God, He plays his role, and you play yours. Why is this important? Because God knows how the story of your life will play out just as He did he asked Pharaoh ten times to ‘Let my people go’.

God’s plan from the beginning was to perform ten miracles before Pharaoh, He knew Pharaoh would not let His people go until after the tenth. Moses was set up from to play his part by commanding Pharaoh to ‘Let God’s people go’ even though it would take ‘ten asks’. From the beginning this was God’s plan and process to demonstrate His omnipotence throughout the earth. Moses had a part to play as did God in this great set-up of ten miracles. What part is God asking you to play today? My day starts with a daily bible reading, then writing. But often I will sit quietly with a blank piece of paper and a pen to see what may bubble up in my heart. I like to wait on the whisper to give God first place. Giving God the first word of the day allows me to submit my soul to him and see what plans He may have and what part I may need to play.  Just like the process of Moses going back and forth with Pharoah in making ‘ten asks’, God often reminds us that some seasons of life require marathon submission, not sprinting past the finish line.

REFLECT TO CONNECT:

  1. When have you made an ‘ask’ of God and he honored your request?
  2. God has a plan and strategy for everything, have you asked him lately about His plans for you?
  3. As you read today, what word or idea bubbled up in your heart, could that be God prompting you?

Principle: Just like the long process of Moses going back and forth with Pharoah in making ‘ten asks’, God often reminds us that some seasons of life require marathon submission, not sprinting past the finish line.
