The High Priest Forever

SCRIPTURE

If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?  For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also.  He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar.  For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.  And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”  The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.” Hebrew 7:11-19

OBSERVATION

Through God’s word, we read and understand that the priesthood and law of the times in the Old Testament was not meant to be the eternal means and way to draw near and commune with the Lord God.  Furthermore, we read and understand that it was the new order of Jesus, in the order of Melchizedek that we would find our eternal relationship with the Lord God, and that the law was what called people to accountability, but not the answer to redemption and salvation.  Jesus was and is the only answer to find forgiveness and eternal salvation.  The law pointed out the fault(s), Jesus took those faults upon Himself and erased them by His sacrifice.  The law finds and defines fault, Jesus forgives and frees us from fault.

APPLICATION

Thus, as the word so succinctly states, it is through our acceptance, relationship, prayer, devotion and communing with Jesus that we will be in the place that God meant us to be in relationship to Him.  Knowing who Jesus is does not bring salvation.  But rather, knowing Jesus as one’s personal savior is the answer and difference.  Knowing of Him is like spectating.  Know Him personally is joining the team and getting in the game.  Its like a sports fan attending a game, knowing all of the rules, tracking all of the stats, but not being either on the team or in the game.  One can be all around a game, but only those on the team and in the game can gain and claim victory.  I want to be on team Jesus, in the game and victorious.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank you for reminding me that knowing of and about Jesus, is like knowing all of the laws of the Bible.  However, I pray that my choice and relationship with Jesus supersedes the law and brings eternal salvation.  More than all the great things I can do, it is my relationship with the High Priest that
