The Great Commission...WHY?

by John Tilton on November 28, 2022

Scripture

Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Observation

These scriptures as we know it is the Great Commission; a command and assignment from Jesus, to go forth sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, that people from all nations would come to know Him as their Lord and Savior.  Furthermore, Jesus commands us to baptize the new disciples and to teach them in the ways, will, and obedience to the lord.  The very pertinent question to ask is “Why?”  Why might these scriptures ring louder, resonate, and be of more urgency?

THESE ARE THE LAST DAYS!  Although we don’t know when Jesus will return, the “signs of the times” and “birth pains” as clearly stated in the Bible are taking place around us – wars and rumors of wars, the decline of morality, increase in crime, pestilence and disease, faith and religion on the decline.  Mankind has never seen the prophetic events of the Bible that will precede Jesus’ return taking place in such close proximity of time and with such clarity.

Application

Thus, it is important that we take Jesus’ command of the Great Commission seriously, and be all about the sharing of the good news of Jesus Christ with others toward salvation, baptism, and teaching of the Word that disciples would become fruitful and continue the commission.  Our resolve should not be fear, and therefore “don’t be scared, but instead be prepared.”  Jesus’ call has been made, we need to respond to save as many of our loved ones, peers, friends, and others; who don’t know Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior.

Prayer

Dear Lord, THANK YOU for the WAKE-UP call that we have been put on this earth for such a time as this to do your will as we are in the Last Days!  The Word is very clear that we prepare for your return.  May you guide us and we be all about the Great Commission and seeing people come to know you as Lord and Savior.
