THE CLOTHES CLOSET OF CHRIST

by Scott Hogle on February 07, 2022

So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Colossians 3:12-14

What will you wear today?  The act of ‘putting Christ on’ throughout the New Testament is metaphorical for clothing oneself in the Christian Mindset. Imagine standing in your closet each morning and choosing what to wear. Based on the meetings you will have, the people you will see, and the circumstances you will encounter, what outfit or mindset will you need to be most prepared with for the day ahead? A mindset is a focused way of thinking and seeing the world, as if to say it is the filter by which we choose to apply, a lens we look through. Here are seven examples of questions that would be applying a particular characteristic of Christ’s heart to your situation.  Seven hearts from one person, all representing Christ in You.

7 Hearts of Christ

  1. Lord, who can I show compassion to today?
  2. Lord, is there someone who will require an extra degree of kindness?
  3. Lord, how might I apply humility to my life today?
  4. Lord, in what ways could I exhibit gentleness?
  5. Lord, is there something or someone I need to apply patience to?
  6. Lord, has any unforgiveness creep into my heart and if so, where?
  7. Lord, how can I demonstrate your love to those I will see today?

To PUT ON the Heart of Christ is to think as He would think and act as He would act toward others. As you PUT ON the Heart of Christ today, Christ in You comes alive and through you into your situations.

REFLECT TO CONNECT

  1. Which Heart of Christ flows effortlessly through you?
  2. Is there a mindset of Christ that you’d like to model more?
  3. What does PUT ON the Heart of Christ mean to you?

Principle: As one puts on a garment, so we clothe ourselves with the Heart of Christ so we can see as He see’s and hear as He hears throughout our day.
