… who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood: May grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure. 1 Peter 1:1-2

When my kids were young there were part of their future I could predict. When looking at their test scores I could predict what grade they would get in the class. When batting, I could predict whether they’d make it to first base or be called out based on watching the play and how fast they ran. In every area of life, someone who has ‘been there done that’ can predict what is going to happen NEXT. Imagine God conceiving in his imagination every person who would ever be born and knowing what they would do before they would do it. It’s mind boggling to consider how God knows everything that is going to happen before it happens.

In God’s foreknowledge, he calls you ‘CHOSEN’. Jesus said in John 15:16, ‘You did not choose me, I chose you’. Take comfort in this, that you are chosen and everything you go through in life is not a surprise to God. This means that even when you are hit hard by life and knocked down, God saw it coming and has a strategy to help you get up and move forward. One of the famous lines from the Rocky movie is, “It’s not whether you get knocked down but if you can get back up and keep moving forward.” You are going to get knocked down and punched out from life but take comfort, God knows what to do NEXT. Next time you get knocked down, use the 10 count before you get back up to pause and ask God what He see’s in his foreknowledge as the next best step for you to take. Then do whatever He tells you to do after you get up.

  1. When has life last knocked you down, what did you do?
  2. What insights has God showed you for moving forward?
  3. What ‘foreknowledge’ do you have now about a future coming your way?

Principle: The word of knowledge is first cousin to foreknowledge; God knows what to do next.
