Tedious Task

by Justin Smith on February 18, 2026

SCRIPTURE:

“At the Lord’s command through Moses, each was assigned his work and told what to carry. Thus they were counted, as the Lord commanded Moses.”

Numbers 4:49

OBSERVATION:

One of my least favorite things to do with my time is to perform tasks that seem tedious and meaningless, but my reality… if I don’t do my taxes there will be repercussions, if I don’t brush my teeth they’ll soon be rotten, and if I don’t spend daily time with Jesus I’ll soon be off course. Sometimes the tedious tasks can be the most critical. Moses and the people were given a tedious task that seemed like a lot of work with an insignificant result…count. Count the people, for what? Weren’t there better things they could do with their time? Moses chose to obey the tedious, he chose to obey the seemingly insignificant, he chose to follow what God asked, and God blessed him for it.

APPLICATION:

What tedious tasks have you been avoiding? Maybe it’s calling that person that you’re upset with to work things out, maybe it’s asking your wife to forgive you, or maybe it’s carving out time in your day to spend with Jesus. These things might seem difficult, inconvenient, or even trivial, yet your faithfulness to obey God in the small things is vital to seeing Him move in a big way.

PRAYER:

Jesus, please forgive me for neglecting the tedious tasks. Help me to strive to obey when it doesn’t make sense, when it seems insignificant, and when I don’t want to. I trust You and commit to doing all that You ask of me knowing that Your way is better!
