Taking Courage

SCRIPTURE:

“The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, ‘Take courage! As you have testified about Me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.’”

Acts 23:11

OBSERVATION:

Paul had just gone through intense opposition, false accusations, conflict, and physical danger. Everything around him probably felt exhausting and uncertain.

And then one of the most beautiful moments happens:
“The Lord stood near Paul…”

Jesus did not send only instructions.
He brought His presence.

And His words were simple:
“Take courage.”

In Job 16, Job also pours out deep anguish and loneliness. He felt misunderstood, wounded, and overwhelmed by suffering.

Both passages remind me that there are seasons where people may fail to fully understand our pain, but God still sees us completely.

And in difficult moments, His presence becomes our strength.

APPLICATION:

There are times when life and ministry can feel draining. Sometimes discouragement, criticism, conflict, or weariness can make us want to pull back or lose heart.

But I love that Jesus came near to Paul in the middle of the struggle — not after everything was resolved.

God often strengthens us while we are still in the battle.

Sometimes we keep waiting for circumstances to improve before we regain peace or courage. But real courage comes from knowing God is near even in hard seasons.

His presence changes everything.

When Jesus says, “Take courage,” it means we are not facing life alone.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank You that You come near to us in difficult seasons. When I feel weary, misunderstood, discouraged, or overwhelmed, remind me that Your presence is with me. Help me take courage not because circumstances are easy, but because You are faithful. Strengthen my heart to keep walking forward with trust, endurance, and peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
