SCRIPTURE:
“The Lord answered, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth; he will put him in charge of all his possessions.”
Luke 12:42-44
OBSERVATION:
Jesus’ reminder and warning for leaders and those in authority is a principle of leadership and responsibility that is so essential in stewardship and diligence whether we are in ministry or the secular. The old saying of when the master is away the mice will play comes to mind of the potential to slack off when our leader or boss is not present. It often isn’t something we do intentionally, but instead unwearyingly, perhaps feeling that we can catch up with responsibility later. We usually start out with great intentions but let other matters take precedence over our priorities of our job, ministry, or responsibilities when we know we are not going to be checked on or the assignment is not due. It also can be in our devotions and relationship with God, thinking that no one really checks on our time with the Lord, our devotions, or prayer time. But the Lord knows.
APPLICATION:
These scriptures are a great reminder, encouragement, and accountability check for me and our staff, who have the privilege to be called into ministry, both in prioritizing our responsibilities to the Lord, our families, and ministry. Am I being faithful in my responsibilities and commitment to God, my family, and my calling at NHO? I am thankful and encouraged to be cognizant and willing to readdress and recalibrate my time, attention, and responsibilities so that my priorities are in order.
PRAYER:
Lord thank you for speaking to me today in a simple way that is such an integral part of my life in my relationship with you, my serving my family, and my calling as pastor. Please guide me to be attentive and diligent to prioritize and organize my days well to steward all that you’ve bestowed upon me as your child, husband, father, and pastor.
