STEPS OF STRATEGY

You crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho; and the citizens of Jericho fought against you, and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite. Thus I gave them into your hand. Then I sent the hornet before you and it drove out the two kings of the Amorites from before you, but not by your sword or your bow. I gave you a land on which you had not labored, and cities which you had not built, and you have lived in them; you are eating of vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.’ Joshua 24:11-13

During the Canaanite conquest, Joshua and Israel would sometimes fight to take possession and at other times wait on the Lord to fight for them. In all instances, Joshua followed the Lord’s strategy for taking possession of the Promise Land. God would employ strategies that included marching, shouting, sending hail from heaven and more. God’s strategies are specific to Him and may not always make sense to you on the front end of following. Yet in hindsight, being obedient to follow the Lord’s leading always results in victory. You do your part, then God does His. Sometimes follow God is like a chess game, you move then God moves.  Sometimes your part is to hear and heed, sometimes to wait in faith, and at other times you are meant to rise up and walk. Here are a few other things to consider when you are ready to take territory and do as Joshua did:

Purposes:  Identify what are God’s purposes for you in this season of life?

Preparation: Map out the steps you need to take to ready yourself for what is next?

Promises: Call out the ‘Promises of God’ you are clinging to for what you are facing?

REFLECT TO CONNECT:

  • What territory do you sense God’s wants you to take?
  • What is the next step of obedience God has led you to?
  • Is there a strategy that is emerging in your mind for what is ahead?

Principle: When walking with God, it is He that directs you to victory, one step at a time.
