Squeeze the Sponge

SCRIPTURE:

“Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.  But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.”
Hebrews 6:7-8

OBSERVATION:

The Lord has blessed us with much and we have a choice to make.  Will we be fruitful in the things He has given us or will we choose not to?  God blesses those who produce a fruitful, useful crop.

APPLICATION:

The things that the Lord has blessed us with – Gifts, talents, knowledge – it was never meant for us to hold on to.  God gave us those things not so that we would hoard them, but rather to share and give them away freely.

When I first found a mentor I was extremely excited.  Here was someone who would pour into me, guide me and advise me biblically as to the way I should go.  When I was struggling or just had questions, he was there to listen, give me feedback and pray.

After about a year, he asked me – “Who are you pouring into?  Who have you been investing in?”  I didn’t have an answer.  This question shocked me, as up until that point I had wrongfully assumed that it was all about me.  All of the knowledge, advice and wisdom that was being poured into me was surely just for me, right?

Wrong.

When I began squeezing the sponge so to speak, and began pouring into others, the blessings of God seemed to flow into my life.

I cannot hold on to and hoard what the Lord has blessed me with.  Instead I must be a conduit through which they flow to others all around me.

PRAYER:

Father Almighty.  Forgive me Lord for holding on so tightly to the things You have called me to let go of.  Thank You Lord for the many blessings You have given me.  May I be a conduit of those blessings, this I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
