Scripture
“At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.” (Matthew 11:25-26)
Observation
Jesus points out that sometimes the learned have the head knowledge and intelligence; but lack the heart and innocence of a child that allows them to hear and understand God’s will and way. One can be so smart, but lack the spiritual sense as led by the Holy Spirit. These scriptures clearly explain that knowing God’s will and ways is not necessarily learned through education and being intelligent, but instead, knowing the Lord through Jesus, the Word, and prayer. It is a relationship with Jesus that reveals the truths and promises.
Application
I know that I have defaulted at times to what my mind and experience says rather than what my heart says, and once I speak and act, it’s often too late to rewind the tape and redo the matter or situation. It’s often a decision or response made in haste, impulsively and often emotionally. It just happened to one morning where I acted in way that my mind impulsively told me how to handle a homeless person, which I wish I could have responded a little different. I feel that I responded in authority and protection, rather than a minister, with intention for the same outcome. Lesson learned.
Prayer
Dear Lord, please guide me through you’re the Holy Spirit, your Word and prayer to better respond to situations that arise daily. May I not be impulsive and emotional, but instead seeking you through prayer and being led by you.
