SCRIPTURE:
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Mark 5:18-20
OBSERVATION:
Instead of securing another disciple to walk alongside Him, Jesus sent out a witness. This man had no formal training, no religious status, and no ministry role. He simply had a testimony. And Jesus commissioned him immediately. Jesus did not build a larger inner circle that day, He expanded His reach through sending ‘em out.
APPLICATION:
3 things for me to takeaway and apply:
- Evangelism is lived outside the church walls, not contained within a building. The man was not assigned a position but sent back to an ordinary life with an extraordinary testimony. I’m reminded and encouraged that my greatest platform is not the church stage, it is my daily environment, my daily interactions, by daily obedience.
- Sending out Apostles matter more than hoarding Disciples. We often measure success by how many attend, serve, or stay connected to church systems. Today I’m reminded that we should also celebrate those how are sent out. Jesus measured impact by multiplication. The pattern of the early church was never containment, it was movement. Healthy ministry releases people into mission. We are chosen to Co-mission.
- Your testimony is enough to begin. Jesus didn’t require theological mastery. He required gratitude and obedience. “Tell them how much the Lord has done for you.”
Evangelism flows naturally when grace and mercy is remembered. When Jesus transformed me He also commissioned me. My response is to tell the story.
PRAYER:
Jesus, Thank You for Your grace and mercy You have shown me. Forgive me when I seek comfort over calling. Give me courage to speak about what You have done in my life in all of areas, all the time, all for Your glory. Amen
Amen
